Changes in my strategies
With my recent change in my career and my adoption of a good GTD method I have started to get my life in order and lessened the load on my back. I have been able to scale down the amount of stuff I care with me on a day-to-day basis. I have been an avid reader of 43Folders and have built my GTD cafeteria style. This has allowed me to build a program that is write for me. My life is now stored in 3 things, which are very easy to use and maintain.
- My Moleskine - I use a very simple Note style. I use this in my meetings and for quick notes. I have a rule about laptops in my meetings, I should be the only one with one (unless it is a debug session or bug review). Alex had a link to this subject The Laptop Herring. I believe in this and I try as hard as I can to make sure I live up to this. Also, don’t forget the pen, my favorite is a Uni-ball Signo 207 (Med).
- My 17″ MacBook Pro - This is my lifeline to my work. Everything is here and I love it so. It is my office on the go and invaluable.
- My iPhone - In a way the phone is everything I have ever wanted, lacking something that I want but don’t need. Since there are really no application available it has kind of streamlined my use of it. I am using all the web applications but I am surprised that I don’t have more. It is a good thing, I used to waste a lot of time looking for applications for my previous phones. I really like and they way it sync with my mail. I use my mail folders to keep track of items.
That is all I have for now but this has made me very effective. I now have to get back to work and get a the latest version of my product out to stable today.
And now for something completely different.
