Things that are working..

I have fixed a couple of the annoying issues that have been bugging me for awhile on my Lifebook. I fixed the issue of APCI. I now can put the laptop of Standby and monitor the battery. The way I fixed this was by going into the Kernel config, selecting the correct settings and recompliling the Kernel to work for my laptop. This was great because it solved alot of other issues. Since the Kernel is now compiled for my laptop the speed is great. It is extremely fast and other driver issues are gone. I will post the document of how I fixed the issue this evening with instruction on how to get SuSE to work.
Later,
B :)

Linux Upgrade.. SuSe 8.2

I upgraded my Lifebook to SuSe 8.2 this weekend to give it a try. So far I am really impressed by the performance aspects of the OS. I think that KDE 3.1 is great desktop. I have loved watching linux develope over the years and it keeps getting better and better. There are still a couple of tweeks that I need to work on to get everything working (still the same old battery monitor not working). Everything else is still great. The Wireless networking was super easy. I will give a better review when I have a time. I am still working on my other project right now.

Installing Linux on a Fujitsu Lifebook

So I have made my baby (a Lifebook C Series 2210) a dual boot monster. I have taken the time to install SUSE 7.3 (a old but great distribution, I had a lot of problems with the Mandrake 9.1 setup) onto my laptop. I am running Windows XP Professional and SUSE on it. The Linux installation went without a hitch, but there are some issues that need to be resolved in order to have a perfect installation. This will be an on going update. I will attempt to configure the Linux side so that it has all the functionality I want. I will be upgading my distribution from SUSE 7.3 to 8.1 went it becomes available on April 11th. I just preordered my copy, I will let you know what happens after I install it. I hope that alot of the issues resolve themselves. SUSE has a really great support line for installation on Fujitsu notebooks.

Issues:
1) Battery: Currently it doesn’t have a battery monitor. This is a problem that I would really like to know how much battery life Iife I have left.
2) Touch Pad: I have to adjust the touch pad so I it is not so sensitive.
3) Stand By: I am configuring right now the ability to go to Stand By, especially when the Laptop is closed.
4) Wireless LAN: I have to configure my wireless lan card to work with this installation.
