Like with the BlackBerry 7100t

So, I have had my BlackBerry 7100t for about 1 1/2 months now. I am complete in love with this device. I have had some really good days and a few bad days. Overall it is a pretty amazing device, so here are my feelings: The Good:The price is great. I bought my 7100t for $150 bucks, I know that there are free offers out there but I wanted it then and there. This is great compaired to the Treo 650 that would have cost me about $650 bucks for existing Sprint users. Battery life is amazing. I also like the way that you can charge it via standard mini-USB. This is very important to me since I travel and hate carrying chargers. I use the same cable to charge my phone, my Gameboy Advanced and my MP3 player. Very nice. |
The receptions is great. T-Mobile in my area is amazing. My house is a sort of cell phone dead zone, even though I live in the middle of Silicon Valley. I always get my calls and the quality is good. I also travel and I have had no issues with the call quality. The Yahoo instant messaging is great. I am always on it and so are all of my friends, family and fellow employees (both former and present). It has turned out to be my main mode of messaging. I rarely actually login into Yahoo from my desktop any more. The PDA functionality is amazing. Currently the BlackBerry server I am connected to is only version 2.1, so all the cool over the air stuff isn’t working right now. We have an order in to upgrade to version 4.0 that will make my 7100t sing. The increase functionality is the ability to read attachments, create and accept meetings, mail box stuff (delete mail resolution and filing of messages in specific files) and TLS transactions. I can’t wait for the upgrade. The Calendar functions just like any other PDA and same with Notes and Tasks. Overall it is a great PDA also. Last, all I can say is Bluetooth. I love Bluetooth, even though it only works for headsets and other voice connections.
The Bad: The bad points aren’t really that bad but more annoying that anything. Lack of third party software. I have download only few things (MiphSSh client, RSS reader) but there are really not to much in the way of software. I have downloaded the JDE (Java Developement Environment) and have started to work on create some applications for my self. I don’t know if I will release them or not. I really wish that there where more games and other things that I miss from my Palm days. I really wish there was a AvantGo client for the BlackBerry. Lack of Bluetooth support for data transfer. I wish that I could use the 7100t as a modem via Bluetooth but I can only do it via USB. This is sort of ok because it charges the phone while I do it but I would like to be able to sync via Bluetooth.
Verdict:For the price you can not beat this phone /PDA thing. It does everything I want and everything I need. I wish there was more third party support for the platform and Bluetooth worked for data. I would recomend this phone to everyone. Actually, since I purchased this phone it has been showing up in my office everywhere. We are switching all our current BlackBerry devices over to this style.
