Of course the net is a buzz with all the news of a dual boot apple. Even Apple’s stock went up 10%. This move is great for a developer like me who relies on either a separate Windows machine or on the road, VirtualPC. While these are acceptable it is just a royal pain in the ass. Caring a separate Windows laptop on the road is not a solutions and VirtualPC is very slow. The Boot Camp loader also makes it possible to do a tri-boot so you can have Linux (my favorite flavor is unbuntu right now). Also if you want the the fastest Windows laptop, you need to get a MacBook Pro/ |
| The second piece of information was the performance of the MacBook Pro vs. a Dual G5 in a java compile-off. Gear Live ran a compile of an 900+ java sources on two machines. One MacBook Pro 2.0 w/ 1 GB of Ram vs. a Dual PowerMac G5 with 4.5 GB of Ram. The difference was 32 seconds of the MacBook Pro and 50 seconds for Dual PowerMac G5. That is amazing and still more amazing is the fact that the MacBook Pro was running in disk protection mode, meaning that everything being read or written was being encrypted. Oh I must have one of these beauties now. |
