One of the things which I have been noticing is that I have become obsessed with having things in my life (digital life that is) syncing and be available anywhere at anytime. This covers everything from the usual Contacts, Calendar and Mail to Photos, Notes, Music, etc. I have be trying to figure out what my favorite approach is but it has been more trial and error than anything. I have had my successes and mostly failures but I have not had anything catastrophic yet as I am very anal about my backups. I have backups of backups. I have external storage at home, work and mobile. That is the best thing about hard drives being so cheap and off-line storage (S3) being readily available. That is another post in itself. So, back to the Syncing thing.
Part 1: I like my data on the move, Mobility
I guess I should start out with a little bit about my past experience, I guess I pride myself on having the same Contacts and Calendar (in various digital forms) since 2001. That is when I really started to pay attention to everything. Also I am a gadget geek and a mobile warrior geek. My wife has tolerated this since she we started dating in 1997, I had a Audiovox cell phone then, she had never met anyone with one, "Do you deal drugs?"). My first real device mobile data device was a Palm V with a Omnisky Modem (the first wireless PDA system really, precursor to Palm 705). This was only part of my solution. I used this in conjunction with a Motorola StarTac.

This was my fist experience of the word of "Syncing". I could actually put all my information on my PC and it auto-magically goes to my device (over the serial cable at the time). My eyes opened and I became obsessed! That was the beginning of the end for me. From there it progressed into having the one device which was the Palm Treo 300 (I think still beautiful after all these years). That started the trend of me getting new Smartphones all the time. I have had many over the years.

I have tried or owned or used most devices on the market. I have an unhealthy obsession with mobility and gadgetry. Yet, I have finally been able to say with one phone / device for more than one year with the introduction of the (cue the angelic music and show the perfectly manicured disembodied hand).
Apple iPhone

I say just iPhone because it doesn’t matter if you have a 1st Gen or a 3G it is still the same software. So where I am going with this, ah yes.. The iPhone is the sort of a node of my Sync system and the main one at that. Since I have more than one computer at various locations, I always have my cellphone with me. Also it is the most important to have the most up-to-date information because it is always with me. Thus why I started with my gadgets and portability.
